Our racing guru and expert, Stephen Hodge gathered 28 members and guests at 8am for a morning on the gallops at Fergal O’Brien‘s yard at Thorndale farm, Withington.
After coffee in the owners’ lounge, Fergal introduced members to all aspects of being a racehorse trainer. Giving them first-hand knowledge on the warm-up arena, three rides on the gallops, and a tour of the stables which included the vet showing how horses were inspected daily for any ailments.
Members concluded that the care given to the horses was first class and well beyond
preconceived expectations.
The degree of professionalism was highlighted by an Olympian runner who is consulting with the yard
on issues of stamina, and fitness for the jockeys and grooms.
They then retired to the Royal Oak at Andoversford for breakfast having had a wonderful early morning experience.
