Guests are very welcome to attend events, or to simply come to the Club as guests for coffee/lunch, when invited and accompanied by a member (although where there is high demand, priority is given to members and a surcharge of £5 is payable for guests.. Members are responsible for paying for their guests.
Guests are only allowed to attend The New Club Cheltenham, just six times a year. Then they are invited to become full members.
Note, however, that regular activities, which tend to be special interest groups (e.g bridge, book club, Pilates, snooker) are organised by and open only to members.
Yes, most members join as town single or town joint members (with their spouses, partners, or direct members of their family), but we also offer country memberships for those living and working more than 10 miles from Cheltenham, and overseas memberships for those who spend most of their time living abroad.
The car park is a convenience open to all members at any time during the day, but it is hoped that this facility is not abused, and consideration is given to fellow members. For instance, it is considered selfish and inconsiderate to park for extended periods when not using the Club, or attending a Club function, and cars are not allowed to be parked overnight except with special permission. A New Club car park badge must be affixed to the windscreen of every car, giving permission to park.
Yes, subject to prior booking. If your booking involves a meal, the menu and cost is negotiated through our Head of House or our Front of house manager. It is ideal for birthday parties, wakes and private lunch or dinner parties if you are a member. Business events are arranged through our Head of Marketing, Jane Moyle.
Yes, members can book rooms in which to hold board meetings, presentations or other business events. It is possible to book one of our small private dining rooms for up to 10, or our Art- Deco dining room for up to 52. We have a boardroom for 12, a function room with full AV facilities for 60 and a beautiful old library for receptions, quiet meetings and dinner parties for 10 – 12. The New Club particularly appeals to middle ranking or senior people.
No. Subscriptions are payable in one amount for each subscription year to 31 October, on or before 1 November in each year. Members joining part way through a subscription year will enjoy a pro rata subscription. New members also pay one-one joining fee on election to the Club.
Yes, our chef is happy to prepare alternative or amended dishes, given prior notice.
Light lunches and bar snacks are served every day from Tuesday – Friday. There are no dinners served unless there are Club events and special occasions, which happen at least once a week. These can take up to 80 members and guests at any time. Members are expected to pay for their guests. Members can book through the Head of House, Marilyn Burn, through this website, under ‘Members Section ‘ to obtain a place.
The new Saturday Brunch is proving to be very popular. These run from 10.00 am – 3.00 pm and one need not book unless there is a party of more than two at a time. Just drop in and have a delicious brunch on a Saturday morning.
Private smaller dinner parties can also take place in the beautiful old library upstairs.
Yes, it opens for Brunch on Saturdays from 10.00 am – 3.00 pm. One need not book, just drop in unless there are more than three, when it is advisable to book a table for the number required.
There are plans to open on occasional Sundays for family Sunday lunches.
Every week an email, the New Club Times, (also known as the ‘NCT’ is sent out to all members giving details of events over the next 3 or 4 weeks so that members can book to attend, and also giving any news of changes or dates for the diary. It is accompanied by a calendar of events for some months ahead. In addition, it is available in the Members’ section of the website.
There is a committee, elected by members, together with three trustees, also members, who are responsible for the general running and administration of the Club. The New Club Cheltenham owns its own freehold.
Yes, the code is smart casual at all times, unless more formal attire is requested, at, for instance, a black tie dinner, while fancy dress is occasionally encouraged (but not compulsory) for some themed events, such as a Caribbean evening or a Roaring Twenties dinner.
Usually, most enquiries are directed to our Member Liaison Officer, Mario Malt. memberliaison@thenewclub.co.uk. It is likely that those who are interested in joining will be given a tour of the Club and an explanation of what is available. Those who would like to join submit a written application to the membership secretary. For FULL membership, all applications are submitted to Committee for approval.
We also offer INTRODUCTORY memberships, which allow prospective members who are uncertain whether the Club is for them to experience it before making the commitment to converting to full membership.
