What an evening that was! We had had a great recommendation by his friend and our member Brian Mathieson that Graham Jolley, was one of the finest magicians in the world . Graham Jolley has been awarded the title of ‘Legend’ by the Magic Circle. He is world famous for his elegant and amusing show. At least 40 members crowded into the dining room and many were willing guinea pigs as he performed incredible tricks on them, which were quite inexplicable. Not only that, but he read our minds. We thought of a number and he produced that very same number from the middle of a book. Before we could turn round, he had coloured balls coming out of John Musselwhite’s pockets; shoes appearing out of boxes when apparently there was nothing there and on and on it went, to our huge amusement, delight, and wonder! We owe a great debt to Brian Mathieson for not only introducing Graham to us but also part-sponsoring his act.

This was followed by the most amazing dinner Carl had produced, still with a magical theme:
